flydubai launches next apprenticeship intake to train future aircraft technicians
Programme equips Emiratis with aviation engineering skills and certification
DUBAI – flydubai has announced the opening of applications for its Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Apprenticeship, inviting Emirati high school graduates to apply from September 2025.
The programme, part of the UAE National Development initiative, reflects the airline’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals.
The fully sponsored four-year scheme is conducted under flydubai’s Maintenance and Engineering department and is designed to provide UAE Nationals with essential technical knowledge and hands-on experience. Successful participants will graduate as certified Aircraft Technicians, approved by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Nasser Binkherbash, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at flydubai, said: “At flydubai, we remain committed to investing in the development of UAE National talent and creating opportunities for the next generation to build long-term careers in aviation. The GCAA CAR 147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation Certification has enabled us to run in-house training and certification programmes that build a pool of qualified homegrown talent to support our ambitious growth plans.”
Programme details
The apprenticeship is open to UAE Nationals between 17 and 24 years of age who meet the eligibility requirements. Over the course of four years, students will receive rigorous theoretical instruction alongside practical training.
Those who successfully complete the academic phase and meet flydubai’s performance standards will progress to the next stage as Aircraft Technician trainees. In this role, apprentices will work on operational aircraft, recording their development in an official logbook as they prepare for industry certification.
Career pathway
Graduates of the programme will be eligible to apply for the GCAA’s Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence (AMEL). This will enable them to take up full-time roles as certified Aircraft Technicians with flydubai, contributing to the airline’s expanding fleet.
“The successful enrolment of the first batch has reaffirmed the importance of this initiative in bridging the gap between education and industry. With the new batch, we look forward to welcoming new apprentices who are passionate about engineering and innovation, and who are ready to support flydubai’s growing fleet,” Binkherbash added.
Ongoing investments
Beyond the apprenticeship, flydubai continues to strengthen its pipeline of Emirati talent through initiatives such as the Ab Initio Pilot Training Programme (MPL), the Cadet Pilot Programme, and a range of internships and work placements. Each initiative reinforces the airline’s strategic vision and offers long-term career prospects for UAE Nationals.
